Revenge of the nature

Climate change is a proven fact. Global warming has caused serious changes to the planet, such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, deforestation, and disappearance of species. It is transnational in nature which means that it is not confined to any specific region. The more the temperature increases the more it would bring about grave repercussions for mankind throughout the world.

A recent report published in Dawn Newspaper concluded that by 2030 billions of people would be jobless.  It is one aspect of climate change which is engulfing the whole world.

In another report published by CNN on Tuesday stated that more than 120 million people could slip into poverty within the next decade because of climate change. As extreme weather events such as droughts, floods and hurricanes become more frequent, the world’s poorest people will be forces to “choose between starvation and migration”, the report warned. It is generally true that poor people cannot protect themselves from extreme hot weathers. They are, therefore, have to bear the cost of climate change.

The heat killed at least 30,000 people caused 13 billion Euros in financial damages. Some estimates put the death toll as high as 70,000. At the time, it was the hottest summer for Europe since the 16th century.

A couple of days ago, 45 calices temperature were recorded in France. This rise in temperature along with heat waves is causing lives of common person more difficult than ever before. People were surprised at such rise in the temperature. “The whole government is mobilized,” French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters on Monday. Public health warnings for heat have also been issued in Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland.

If one delves back into the history of pre-industrial era, one can easily see a moderate temperature and climate. People had no difficulty in living their lives. But as soon as people started industrializing their countries, the wrath of nature was witnessed. And today, almost all the world is bearing the cost of industrialization.

Countries in their quest for becoming a powerful nation forget about the nature. They are dumping their waste material into an open area which is causing harm to nature. Likewise, the increasing dependency of mankind on non-renewable sources such as fuel has furthered the cause of climate deterioration.

In addition, another cause of climate change is the deforestation. The earth loses 18.7 million acres of forests per year, which is equal to 27 soccer fields every minute, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It is estimated that 15 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions come from deforestation.

However, we can combat climate change by reducing the origin of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. For instance, use your car less, whenever possible, instead use sustainable transportation, such as bicycling, or use public transportation more often. In the case of long-distance travel, trains are more sustainable than airplanes, which cause a great deal of the CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. If you’re into cars, remember that every kilometer that you increase your speed will considerably increase CO2 emissions and expenses. According to the CE, each liter of fuel that your car uses equals 2.5 kilos of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere.

Similarly, to save energy is another way to tackle climate change. Take a look at the labels on your appliances, and never leave them on standby. Always adjust the thermostat for heating and air conditioning. By being careful how we use home appliances, we can save energy and, of course, money at the end of the month.

People should be encouraged to plant more and more trees around and wherever possible. Trees eat CO2. So if people plant trees in the barren lands, the increase in temperate will be dropped as it inhales CO2 and produces Oxygen. And, likewise, government should plenty those who cut trees without proper procedure.

Put the 3 R’s of sustainability into practice – Reduce: consume less, more efficiently. – Reuse: take advantage of second-hand markets, to give new life to items that you don’t use anymore or find something that someone else has gotten rid of that you need. You’ll be saving money and reducing your consumption. Bartering is also a practical solution. – Recycle: packaging, waste from electronics, etc. Did you know that you can save over 730 kilos of CO2 each year just by recycling half of the garbage produced at home?

To conclude, climate change is taking more lives and causing men’s life more difficult than ever before. It is estimated that by year 2030 the temperate will become more severe than the current one. And people for some time may fight climate change, but a day will come when man will be exhausted and as a result, will surrender to the rage of climate change. Therefore, countries around the world should come together and vow to contribute as much as possible to subdue the anger of climate.
